Reflection
1. On a scale from 1 to 5 (1=easy and 5=difficult) how difficult was this assignment? -3
2. Please explain why you choose this number. -To write IKEA manual, we had to know and use new words, and some of the description is not clear for me, so I had trouble with finding appropriate expressions.
3. How and why did you pick the furniture manual that you did? Were there other manuals that you considered? Why not them?- It looks not difficult for us and also there was enough directions. Firstly, we would like to do more complicated desk manual, but I felt there were a lot of unknown words and description. So we tried to find more simple one.
4. What was the most challenging step to explain in your directions? Why?- When I wanted to explain about upper part of chair, there was a some difficult parts like how can we explain about metal part or which word adopt or put are best, so we tried to find specific words with using real chair.
5. What do you feel was easier to do in text than in the picture when you wrote out the directions?-I think picture is easier than in text because we can drew image or image the same image. However text, we have to find exact words and also we have to know these words meanings.
6. Do you think directions such as these are best in text (symbolic), picture (iconic)?- I think iconic. When people imagine from symbolic, people can't imagine exactly same image.
7. If you were to combine both the text (symbolic) and icon (picture) do you think this would help or confuse the communication of directions?- It could be helpful because if I can't understand either only text or picture, I can showing each other to understand more clearly.
8. Think of something in everyday life that you would like to learn. Do you think you could use icon (picture) based directions like the IKEA manuals to learn this. Why or why not? –I think some things could be use but some things could not use picture to describe because detailed expression like texture or taste, explanation might be confused.
9. Final thoughts, what situations do you feel icon directions work better than symbolic? And symbolic better than icon? Things which is foreigners or children wanted to be understand like general information. For example, wash rooms, smoking area and road signs.

how to take selfies with friends.
- How did you make your decision of your topic? Was your topic a good choice for this project? -We gave some opinions, and imagine how can we draw, then we made sure it is simple or not. Luckily, this decision was good because it is not too complicated to draw.
- What did you notice about using iconic language to show your directions? - I noticed iconic language have to be clearly and I have to use general icon to be understand to everybody.
- What information did you choose to include and not include and why? - I drew a hand in detailed at first, but it looks like messy, so I removed it. Instead of a hand, I used arrow mark because it is simple.
